Fenwick self-published this account after his third voyage, and print runs of privately financed travel narratives from this period were small — perhaps 250 copies, most of which were read to pieces or rebound out of their original boards within a generation.
This copy survives in those original boards, uncut, which is the condition collectors of this material actually chase; a handsome later rebinding is common, an untouched original is not. The spine is chipped at the head and the joints are tender, but the text block itself is remarkably fresh, with wide margins that suggest it was shelved rather than read.
